Webmasterworld . com requires you to be logged into their site to view its contents. However you will find their pages in google’s search results. Unless mister Google has a username and password he is getting this information somehow. It’s called cloaking, you allow the googlebot to see different information than a human user.
So in conclusion we can safely say that cloaking is allowed, even encouraged by google, as
1) Matt Cutts and other googler’s frequent webmasterworld.com
http://www.webmasterworld.com/profilev4.cgi?action=view&member=MattCut ts
http://www.webmasterworld.com/profilev4.cgi?action=view&member=adam_l…
http://www.webmasterworld.com/profilev4.cgi?action=view&member=vaness…
2) They link to it off of an official google blog at, for example:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/
3) Allow cloaked pages to be returned in the results to the tune of
203,000 results.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,…
4) Officially endorsed and participate in their conferences.

For months now this site and others have been quietly playing a game with google. We are told to design our sites for users and not the search engines. Occaisionaly a site or pages from a site can be thrown into what is known as the “supplemental index” It’s usually reserved for older pages that google does not have a lot of faith in and only shows up in searches if very few worthy pages exist. One theory is that simple things like non-unique page descriptions, something that goes against designing a site for users since most users don’t look at the page source, will trip a site into supplemental. Google crawls regular sites daily or at least weekly, but if a page is listed as supplemental it will not be updated for months.

Well even the giant themselves must have deemed their own site not worthy of being in the regular index. Per the screen shot taken at 9:30AM CDT, all but three pages of google.com is now supplemental.

After reading the blog posting by Mr. Matt Cutts (I do respect him) I couldn’t help thinking of that Baghdad Bob the Iraqi Minister of DisInformation standing there on the roof of the building with his city on fire and the tanks rolling up behind him. He was assuring us that he is in constant communication with their army and his boss and everything was going to be all right. After all was said and done Baghdad Bob was only doing his job even though we all knew the truth the whole time.
