Effect of Thermostat Setpoint on Heat Loss

The graph below shows the effect on the delta T (temperature difference) between room set point and outside on heat loss. The energy savings is much greater during the shoulder months of the heating season, and less pronounced during the coldest time of the year. This graph is only effective for a heating load, as cooling loads are much more dependant on the Sun’s influence and fenestration.
